FIRST AND THIRD TO SPINNING WORLD IN FLEMINGTON GROUP ONE

Daughters of Spinning World filled first and third positions in the prestigious Group One VRC Myer Classic (1600m) staged on the opening day of the 2006 VRC Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington in front of 129,000 racegoers.

Only one of three events found on the Australian racing calendar staged at Group One level for fillies and mares, this year’s Myer Classic witnessed a determined late finish close to the inside fence from Lyrical Bid (6m, Spinning World-Oh Pretty Woman, by Jevington) to score by three-quarters of a length. Paternal half-sister Kosi Bay (5m, Spinning World-Calvinia, by Varick) followed the same route home to take the minor placing.

Lyrical Bid became the third individual Group One winner by Spinning World in Australia following the previous victories recorded at the highest level by top-class colt Thorn Park and champion filly Special Harmony. Lyrical Bid’s Myer Classic success took her record to six wins and four minor placings for prizemoney of over $470,000.
